지역학과 미술사학의 상호 연관성 – 이탈리아학의 사례를 중심으로 = Interrelationship between Area Studies and History of Art - in the case of Italian Studies

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research examines links among Area Studies, History of Art and Italian Studies and analyzes the question of how trans-disciplinary research is possibly defined in these disciplines. My approach in this paper is based on the similarity and diversity in the history of disciplines. In the historical context the Alterity, notwithstanding the different questions and limits of researches, is characteristics central to these disciplines and is a common topic. Alterity and identity are two inseparable sides of the same coin because the Other exists relative to the Self.
There is a significant disparity between Area Studies and History of Art. Area Studies look at large-scale social processes, such as social stability and change.
Furthermore it focus on historical and social identity and direction of change. In this process it needs to analyze the medium of communication between social groups. One of social medium, for example, is Art. On the other hands History of Art looks at micro level approach interpreting the works of Art and intention of artist. It requests the comprehension of social context on the way, and that’s why Area Studies are useful for Art History. Nonetheless, notably it share common interests, structurally and methodologically, it’s because of interdependence on each other’s for giving evidences. And to conclude, these disciplines are mutually useful for developing researches.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 지역학, 미술사, 이탈리아 학 사이의 접점을 검토하며, 이 분야들의 교차학제로서의 가능성에 대한 문제를 분석한다. 이를 위해서 본 논문에서는 학문의 역사가 지닌 유사성을 검토하였으며 타자성의 문제를 공유하고 있다는 사실을 확인하였다.
타자성의 문제는 정체성의 구축에 중요한 역할을 담당하며 지역학과 미술사에서 공유되고 있다. 특히 타자성과 정체성은 동전의 양면처럼 다뤄진다. 왜냐하면 타자는 주체에 의해서 설명될 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 같은 주제를 다루고 있기는 해도 두 분야는서로 다른 학문적 지향점과 방법론을 지니고 있다. 지역학은 거시적 관점에서 사회 구성원의 관계를 분석하고 더 나아가 역사적, 사회적 정체성과 변화의 방향성을 다룬다.
이 과정에서 사회 그룹들 간의 소통 매체를 분석할 필요가 있으며 미술과 같은 매체도분석 대상에 포함된다. 반면 미술사는 미시적 관점에서 미술품과 예술가의 의도를 해석하기 위한 미시적 문제를 다룬다. 이 작업은 사회적 맥락에 대한 이해가 필요하기 때문에 문화지도처럼 지역학 역시 미술사에 필요한 정보와 이를 바라보는 관점을 생산한다. 두 분야의 학문적 지향점과 방법론의 차이에도 불구하고 두 분야는 데이터의 검증을 위해서 구조적으로 상호의존적 특징이 있고 각 연구 분야를 심화시켜나가는 데 기여할 수 있다.
