외국인 유학생의 전공 교과목 서술형 답안 쓰기에서의 보상 전략 사용 양상 연구 = Compensatory Strategy Use in Descriptive Answer Writing for Major Courses by International Students

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 국내 대학 전공 강의의 서술형 답안 쓰기에서 외국인 유학생들이 사용하는 보상 전략의 유형과 효과를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 대학에서 서술형 평가는 학업 성취를 판단하는 핵심 요소이지만, 유학생들은 제한된 쓰기 능력으로 인해 자신의 지식을 충분히 드러내는 데 어려움을 겪는 경우가 많다. 이에 실제 시험 답안 233편을 분석하여 학습자들이 언어적 제한을 극복하고 의사소통 목적을 달성하기 위해 어떠한 보상 전략을 활용하는지를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 번호 부여, 핵심어 강조, 그림·도표 사용 등을 포함한 12개의 전략 유형이 확인되었다. 이에 전문가 평정을 통해 각 전략을 효과적인 전략과 비효과적인 전략으로 구분하였으며, 그 결과 우회적 표현, 비슷한 말로 대체, 그림·도표 사용 등의 전략은 내용 전달과 긍정적 평가 결과 획득에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면, 번호 부여, 언어 전환 등의 전략은 제한적이거나 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 보상 전략의 명시적 교수를 포함하는 교육적 활용 방안과 유학생들의 쓰기에 나타나는 전략적·능동적 시도에 대한 관점의 확장을 제언하였다.

This study aims to explore the types and effectiveness of compensatory strategies employed by international students when writing descriptive answers for major courses. To achieve this goal, this study analyzed 233 exam answers to examine how students utilize compensatory strategies to overcome linguistic limitations and achieve their communicative goals. The analysis identified twelve distinct strategies, including sentence numbering, keyword highlighting, and the use of visual representations. Through expert evaluation regarding content delivery and assessment outcomes, the study classified these strategies into effective and ineffective categories. Strategies such as circumlocution, approximation, and use of visual representations were evaluated as positive methods for both conveying information and securing good grades. In contrast, strategies like sentence numbering and code-switching were found to have limited or negative effects on evaluation. Based on these findings, the study suggests that effective compensatory strategies should be explicitly taught in KAP education to support the academic success of international students, while ineffective strategies should be guided toward more appropriate forms.
