Based on Jacques Rancière’s discussions on the “politics of literature,” this study examines how Chun Seon-ran’s A Thousand Blues renders visible the beings who have been excluded under the promise of technological progress, thereby moving toward a utopia for the “part-who-have-no-part.” In Chapter 2, the novel focuses on the narratives of the “part-who-have-no-part” to analyze how it exposes the process of othering concealed by technological utopias. Chapter 3 centers on the scene where the humanoid jockey Colli falls from a horse, exploring how “im-potentiality” interrupts the order of technological rationality that establishes speed and efficiency as the norm. Furthermore, Chapter 4 investigates how the narrative of Eun-hye, a disabled character erased during the process of technological advancement, raises the critical question: “Why must the utopian longing embodied in SF be based on a collective character?” In particular, the process through which the “practice of running at the slowest pace” is transformed into a utopian aspiration for remodeling the world represents the horizon of social transformation that posthuman SF seeks to reach.
