In this thesis, the researcher examines the fact that the Sacrament of Eucharist is the origin of the Mission and Church's life as well, focusing on Church’s documents.
This study is not, of course, to explain the whole meaning of the Sacrament, but could offer to an opportunity that we reflect the deep and abundant meaning of the Eucharist.
The body of this thesis is divided into three chapters. The first Chapter is examined the relationship between the Mission and the Sacrament of Eucharist, which is revealed in the Church Fathers documents and as well as New Testament. In the second Chapter, the concrete contents of the Mission and the Sacrament of Eucharist are summarized in the documents of the Vatican Council II and the Encyclicals since the Vatican Council II and the documents of CBCK.
Then, In Chapter III, the researcher investigates the relationship between the Mission and the Sacrament of Eucharist in the documents of the international Eucharistic Congresses. The contents could be summarized as following:
Firstly, in the New Testament, Jesus has the followers continually work on with, by the Eucharist, His task that Jesus has begun, so that the followers can proceed to the apostolic and affirmative level. And this part indicates that the Sacrament of Eucharist can be the source of conformation of Community, then through this Sacrament hands down the inheritance of the faith to others.
Secondly, as we may see in the Vatican documents, as the Church which is understood the Communio, above all, she should testify the faith and hope to the world and as well as she would be conformed the veridical and horizontal union by the Eucharist Then, in other documents since the Vatican II, it is seen that the Church is, per se, a mission community. This community could be experienced the presence of Christ by the life of the Sacrament of Eucharist as the practical witness. From this transcendental experience, the Christians can go forward to the growth of the faith and the practice of the charity. On the other hand, the pastoral letter of CBCK emphasizes the life of Christ which can be received by the Sacrament. In other words, we can be the instruments to bring to our neighbors the life, as the grace of the redemption that Christ offers His life. Moreover, in terms of practical ways of the mission, the Church should witness the Eucharistic life by the sharing and charity.
Finally, it is focused on the documents of the international Eucharistic Congresses. A study on these documents could contribute the opportunity to deeply understand the relationship between the mission and the Sacrament.
Consequently, as described above, the communion of community conformed by the celebration of the Sacrament of Eucharist leads the practice of the service and charity to the faithful, that is, we may say, the mission life. The celebration of the Sacrament is the act of mission which can reveal the nature of the Church to the non-believers, and at the same time for the believers the Sacrament is the fundamental power and the bread of life that can inspire our life.
