위키(Wiki)활용 수업의 교육적 함의: 초등학교 수업사례 = The Educational Effects of Wiki: A Case Study of Elementary School

국문 초록 (Abstract)

차세대 웹으로서 웹2.0은 ``사용자 참여, 공유, 사회적 네트워킹`` 등의 특성으로 폭넓은 인식과 지지를 받고 있음과 동시에 새로운 교육적 측면에서의 활용과 적용으로도 그 관심의 범위를 확장해 나가고 있다. 웹2.0 기술의 하나인 위키(wiki)는 누구나 편집 할 수 있는 권한이 부여되며 실시간 동시 작업을 통한 공동 집필 등 기존의 저작권과는 상반된 개념의 글쓰기 등의 특징을 가지면서, 학습자들로 하여금 자기 주도적, 협동적 글쓰기를 하거나 작업을 할 수 있는 학습 환경을 제공함과 동시에 그 개방성과 유동성(flexibility)으로 인하여 교육 분야에 있어 세계적으로 급속한 관심을 불러 모으고 있다. 본 연구에서는 24명의 5~6학년 초등학생을 대상으로 10주간(2007. 10. 1 ~ 2007. 12. 15)에 걸쳐 ``초등영어심화프로그램``에 협동학습의 공간이자 학습도구로서의 위키를 활용한 수업을 실시함으로써, 위키 활용 학습 활동 과정에서 일어나는 학습자들의 구체적인 학습과정의 특징과 교육적 함의를 찾아보려 하였다. 연구 결과, 위키는 초등학교 학습자들에게 1) 역동적인 선의의 경쟁공간으로서 활용되었으며 2) 효과적인 협동학습의 공간으로 받아들여졌고 3) 친밀감 및 사회도덕성형성의 공간임과 동시에 4) 사용하기 편리한 배움의 공간으로 자연스럽게 인식되어졌음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 위키가 가지고 있는 기술적인 특징은 초등학교 학습자들에게 미래 교육에서 더욱 요구되는 자기 주도적이며 협동적으로 학습할 수 있는 능력과 사회적 관계형성에 구체적이고 실질적인 도움이 될수 있으며, 새로운 온라인학습 도구로서의 무한한 교육적 잠재력을 가지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Wiki is a major component of Web 2.0, the emergent generation of web tools and applications. Web 2.0 has the potential to complement, enhance, and add new collaborative dimensions to the classroom. A wiki is a web communication and collaboration tool that can be used to engage students in learning with others within a collaborative environment. This is a case study to examine how wikis are working as an online learning environments in elementary school. For this purpose, this study conducted 10 weeks ``Elementary English Intensive Program`` to 24 elementary students in which a wiki service called ``Springnote``, free of charge, is used as an online learning space and tool of 1) collaborative team work for the given projects and 2) individual or group discussion and diary-writing. After the collaborative or individual online study during weekdays, the students and the teacher had off-line face to face classes on every Saturdays to present and discuss what they had studied online class. Data for the result analysis was collected from both a questionnaire and an depth interview with the students involved in the class at the end of the program. The results of this study showed that a wiki was a convenient and effective space for 1) experiencing positive competition among the students; 2) building social relationships; and 3) collaborative learning space over their studying. In conclusion, wikis seem to include meaningful educational potentials in elementary school for the future education in which emphasized would be autonomous engagement, self-directed and collaborative participation to learning. This case study indicated that wikis will be able to be used as a cooperative/collaborative learning and the constructivist paradigm in elementary school in Korea as a new online technology.
