This study is to investigate details of the mechanism of "the obstacle sense (experimental ability to detect the object that generates no sound by using the auditory sense on a base of variation of the sound field)," which is one of the environment-cognition methods of the blind persons.
In this study presents that the empirical result about obstacle perception distance and the influence of Doppler effect on the obstacle perception with the training method for the improvement of obstacle perception using other sensation except for the sense of sight of visually impaired person. The existence of first perception and final appraisal process was certain on the obstacle perception. The experiment shows that obstacle perception is possible when the visually impaired don't move. As a result, we know that pitch change by Doppler effect is not the necessary condition.
