This article introduces the application of qualitative research in theagriculture sector by reviewing international literature using a systematicreview method. The qualitative methodologies described in the literatureincluded ground theory, phenomenology, ethnography, narrative research, andqualitative content analysis. Individual interview and focus group discussionwere the predominant methods used for qualitative data collection. Theusefulness of implementing qualitative research techniques was investigatedthroughout the sub-themes of agricultural economics, including foodconsumption, labor, land/forest, rural society/development/tourism,management, environment/resource, climate change, and livestock. Thequalitative research method is suggested as a complementary or substitutiveapproach to quantitative research in the study of agriculture or agriculturaleconomics.
