전통약물의 약효 평가방법 = Screening Methodology for Pharmacologic Activity of Traditional Herbal Medicine

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The interpretation on the traditional herbal medicine(THM) has been changing with the lapse of time. Especially, THM is used in a single crude drug or compound form of tens of crude drugs, also it's constituents and effect are not precisely proved and it's using is also based on the traditional evaluation by tae past experiences.
The studies on the action of THM are widely carrying in the fields of pharmacognogy, pharmacology, biochemistry and clinics. But the biological effect and pharmacological actions are not sufficiently understood yet.
Recently the interest in the biological activities of THM is increasing and the main purposes are divided in two. The first is to success and develop the THM through the scientific and analytical demonstration of the pharmacological actions. The second is to screen the activities of THM in purpose of using the THM as the source of new drug development.
There are two method in screening and proving the action of THM by the pharmacological methods. One is the in vivo experiment using the living whole animals and the other is the random screening using the in vitro bioassay.
The pharmacological experimental methods which are used in the study of THM will be discussed on the basis of the former method.
