대학생의 공감교육을 위한 포토보이스 방법 활용 사례 연구－D대학 ‘AI시대의 인간관계와 감정탐구’ 수업을 중심으로 = A Case Study on the Use of the Photovoice Method for the Empathy Education of College Students: Focusing on the class ‘Exploring Human Relations and Emotions in the AI Era’ at D University

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 대학생을 위한 공감교육을 확대하기 위해 참여적 실행연구인 포토보이스 방법을 실제 수업에 적용해 보았다. 이를 통해 학생들이 어떤 부분에서 공감능력을 함양하게 되었는지 살펴보고시사점을 제공하는 데 있다. 포토보이스는 연구 참여자가 제공한 사진을 통해 개인의 경험을 공유하고 사회적 실천을 모색한다는 점에서 개인적 공감과 사회적 공감이 균형 있게 성장할 수 있게 해준다. 서울 소재 D대학교의 교양 수업인 ‘AI시대의 인간관계와 감정탐구’ 과목에서 포토보이스 방법을 활용한프로젝트를 시도하였다. 수업에는 30명의 학생들이 참여하였으며 오프라인 수업을 중심으로 디지털도구를 활용하였다. 교수자는 학생들에게 ‘AI시대 청년의 외로움’이라는 포토보이스 프로젝트의 대주제를 제시하였고, 학생들은 팀별로 포토보이스 활동을 전개하였다. 활동의 성과로 학생들은 개인적공감의 영역에서 타인의 생각과 감정을 이해하는 능력, 공감적 소통 능력이 함양되었다고 평가하였다. 또한 포토보이스의 결과를 공유하는 과정에서 사회적 문제를 해결하고 정책적 대안을 모색하는 사회적공감 역량도 향상되었다고 보았다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 포토보이스 방법이 보다 다양한 대학 수업에서 활용될 수 있도록 실용적인 가이드라인을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to apply the photovoice method, a participatory action research method, to an actual class in order to expand empathy education for college students. To this end, the study examined where students developed an ability to empathize and then to provide implications. Photovoice enables students to develop a balanced growth of personal and social empathy by sharing personal experiences and by exploring social action through photos provided by research participants. A project utilizing the photovoice method was presented in the course ‘Exploring Human Relations and Emotions in the AI Era’, a liberal arts class at D University located in Seoul. The class was attended by 30 students and digital tools were used mainly in offline classes. The instructor introduced the main topic of the photovoice project, ‘Loneliness of Youth in the AI Era’ and the students carried out photovoice activities in teams. As a result of the activities, students stated that they developed their ability to understand the thoughts and feelings of others in the areas of personal empathy and in their ability to communicate empathetically. Also, in the process of sharing the results of photovoice, the social empathy capacity of students to solve social problems and seek policy alternatives improved. Through the results of this study, practical guidelines will be put forth so that the photovoice method can be used in a wider variety of college classes.
