원형부정사 교체구문과 힘역학 영상도식 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between bare infinitive constructions in English and the image schemas of force dynamics. The semantic motivations for the selection of bare infinitive complements or -ing/to-infinitive complements in several English constructions have been discussed on the basis of the semantic properties of each specific construction. In this paper it is argued that the discussions of the motivations could be integrated under the cognitive image schemas of force dynamics, and that the use of the infinitive complements reflects the compulsion image schema, while that of the to-infinitive complements shows the barrier removal image schema.
The following specific claims are made in this paper. First, the alternations between bare infinitive complements and -ing complements in some perception verb constructions have been described under temporal subsumption, pure vs. cognitive perception, etc. The different views on the alternations are argued to be explained under the image schema of force dynamics. Second, the specific complement types(bare infinitive or to-infinitive) selected by the different causative verbs reflect the image schema of force dynamics. Third, The image schematic explanations for the complement alternations in some English constructions are argued to be extended to the complement alternations in other languages such as Korean. In this paper, it is claimed that the alternation between -key and -tolok complements in Korean causative constructions could be explained in the similar way as in English counterparts.
