존재-당위의 소통문제로서 도덕철학과 도덕심리학의 관계 정립

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 도덕교육의 학적 배경으로서 도덕철학과 도덕심리학의 관계 정립이 필요하다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 존재 명제로부터 당위 명제를 도출할 수 없다는 흄의 지적 이후 존재와 당위는 엄격하게 구분되었고, 이러한 이원화의 경향은 도덕철학과 도덕심리학 사이에도 노정되었다. 본고는 대표적인 도덕철학자인 칸트와 대표적인 도덕심리학자인 콜버그에 의한 도덕철학과 도덕심리학 간의 적절한 관계 정립의 문제를 다룬다. 칸트 윤리학의 두 층위는 순수 윤리학과 경험 윤리학으로 구분되며, 전자가 도덕성의 정초 문제를 다루는 도덕철학의 성격을 지니고 있다면 후자는 도덕성의 적용 및 실현 문제를 다루는 도덕심리학의 성격을 지니고 있다. 콜버그 역시 도덕철학과 도덕심리학 간의 적절한 관계 설정을 통해 자신의 도덕발달이론을 제시한다. 그는 행동주의 혹은 정신분석 이론에 근거한 도덕심리학자들은 존재로부터 당위의 진술을 이끌어냄으로써 일종의 자연주의적 오류로 간주되는 심리학자의 오류를 범하고 있다고 비판한다. 이는 무엇보다 당위 차원의 논의를 존재(사실)로부터 논의할 경우 윤리적 상대주의의 문제가 초래되기 때문이다. 그리하여 콜버그는 도덕철학적 전제와 함께 도덕발달에 관한 경험적 연구를 통해 도덕철학의 타당성을 입증하는 병행설 내지 동형설을 주장한다. 칸트와 콜버그의 관점을 중심으로 밝힌 도덕철학과 도덕심리학의 상호보완성 논의는 도덕교육의 이론적 공고화에 일정한 기여를 할 것으로 전망한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study starts from the question that it is necessary to establish the appropriate relationship between moral philosophy & moral psychology. Since Hume’s argument that we cannot derive ought-propositions from is-propositions, great abyss has existed between is and ought. This abyss is given in the relationship of moral philosophy & moral psychology as well. This article delves into the proper relationship between moral philosophy & moral psychology by Kant and Kohlberg. The former is thought of as the representative of moral philosophers, and the latter that of moral psychologists. Kant projected his entire ethics as two aspects, that is to say, pure ethics and impure ethics. Pure ethics which treats the foundation of morality can be understood as moral philosophy and impure ethics which treats the application or actualization of morality can be counted as moral psychology. Kohlberg also suggested his theory of moral development as the complementary relationship between moral philosophy & moral psychology. He assumed critical attitudes toward psychologist’s fallacy, that is, naturalistic fallacy which moral psychologists based on behaviorist or psychoanalytic theory commit by deriving ought-statements from is-statements. Kohlberg’s criticism is focused, among others, on the problem of ethical relativism which can result from the arguments which derive ought from is. Kohlberg made a meaningful suggestion called parallelism or isomorphism which starts from the premise of moral philosophy and then demonstrates the validity of moral philosophy in question through empirical research. This study of the mutual complimentary relationship between moral philosophy & moral psychology in perspectives of Kant and Kohlberg will make a meaningful contribution to the consolidation of moral education.
