젠더와 철학상담 : 피터 라베를 중심으로 = Gender and Philosophical Counseling : With Regard to Peter B. Raabe’s Approach

국문 초록 (Abstract)

상담 영역에서도 성별(gender)의 문제는 지난 수십 년간 점점 더 커다란 관심의 대상이 되어왔다. 현대의 상담 종사자들 가운데 성별이 상담 과정이나 결과에 “실제적인” 변수로 작용할 수 있다는 데에 이의를 제기할 사람은 없을 것이다. 이 글은 성별을 반영하는 철학상담의 필요성에 주목한 피터 라베의 글 「여성처럼 말하기/남성처럼 경청하기」를 중심으로 철학상담 분야의 내담자-상담사 관계에서 성별이 내포하는 문제성을 검토해보고자 한다. 논의의 순서와 그 대체적인 내용은 라베의 글에 따르되 필요한 경우 다른 저자들의 논거나 예시를 보충하고자 한다. 이 글의 의도는 철학상담이 성별 편견을 어떻게 피할 것이냐의 물음에 있다기보다는 오히려 상담 과정에서 성별이 가질 수 있는 의미를 부각시킴으로써 철학상담 회기에서 이루어지는 상담사와 내담자의 만남을 어떻게 풍요롭고 생산적인 것으로 만들 것인가라는 고민에 두어져 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Over the past decades there seems to be increasing interest in the issues of gender in counseling. Currently, no psychotherapist would wonder if gender should be viewed as an “active” variable in her or his field. This presentation focuses on gender problems in client-counselor relationship in philosophical practice. I will largely follow Peter B. Raabe's argument presented in “Speaking Like a Woman/Listening Like a Man” and make comments as well as some supplementary remarks on it. My main concern (and maybe his as well) will be the question ‘how to enrich counseling encounter’ rather than ‘to avoid gender bias’. It will be evident that a clear understanding of the gender differences and the role ascribed to them in philosophical counseling process can contribute to make it effective.
