국가간 문화적 근접성이 수출집약도 및 수출다양도에 미치는 영향 = The Impacts of Cultural Proximity on the Intensive and Extensive Margins of Exports

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Using 4-digit SITC classification of products, this paper calculates the bilateral intensive and extensive margins of world exports for the period 2000-2010 and investigates the impacts of cultural proximity on the intensive and extensive margins of exports. Different from the previous studies that concentrate on common language and religion as cultural factors, this paper uses the cultural index ofHofstede et al.(2010). Furthermore, while the estimates of OLS suffers from the selection bias problem in the presence of zero trade, I employ Poisson Pseudo- Maximum Likelihood to solve this problem. My findings are i) cultural proximity leads to the increase in the intensive margins of trade, ii) but the results of the impacts of cultural proximity on the extensive margins of exports are mixed.
