지역사회 정치문화 및 주민참여에 관한 경험적 연구 - 수원시 사례를 중심으로 - = An Empirical Research on the Local Communities' Popular Participation and Political Culture: The Case of Suwon-city

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since the system of local autonomy was introduced to South Korea in 1995, many efforts have been tried to make local communities' participation more democratic and efficient. Among different types of participation including local voting and mass demonstration, this study adopts the basic assumption of cultural approach in which local people's participatory behavior ascribes to their consciousness. Therefore, it tried to find out whether peoples' participatory behavior varies according to their understanding of local government and level of consciousness about participation. As a result, it was found that Suwon-city residents had a will to participate but did not participate much actually. Peoples' concerns about their community affairs were played as an intervening variable to make them read papers and watch TV news. Also, the type of participation was somewhat varied depending on such demographic variables as sex, age and occupation. But both party preference and institutional enrollment were significantly varied in every aspects of participation.
