관광목적지 수명주기에 따른 제주관광의 공급변화 = Changes of Tourism Supply in Jeju Tourism with respect to Tourist Destination Life-cycle

In recent years, the number of visitors to Jeju has experienced a substantial boom so that the local tourism industry has prospered. The Jeju tourism has been experiencing a growth phase since 2009 known as the second tourist area life-cycle period. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the response of tourism supply to the sudden increase of tourism demand in a short period of time in Jeju. The analysis has been performed based upon the yearly changes in data for each category for the last 5 years. Generally speaking, the number of visitors to Jeju will increase for the next few years. However, the limitation for holding capacity of Jeju airport may be a barrier to increase the number of visitors by airplane even though Low Cost Carrier companies are going to expand the supply of airplane seat on Jeju line. On the contrary to this, domestic visitors using vessel and foreign cruise tourist are expected to increase dramatically, courtesy of new port for cruise vessel. For the lodging industry, hostel known as a guest house, condominium, and small scale hotel are preferred by visitors so that the market share for those types will increase consistently. Travel agencies in Jeju have not shown good operation performance with the boom in Jeju tourism. The reason is that the travel agencies in Jeju are tend to dependent on the companies sending tourists. In addition to that, many positive and negative things are observed in terms of economic and social effects on tourism in Jeju.
