재외 한국교육기관을 위한 통일교육 프로그램 개발 및 적용 사례에 따른 시사점 분석: 미국 소재 한국학교를 중심으로 = A Study on the Development and Application of Unification Education Programs for Overseas Korean Educational Institutions: Focusing on Korean Schools in the U.S

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적 본 연구는 재외 한국교육기관의 학생에게 적용할 수 있는 통일교육 프로그램을 개발 및 적용하고, 이를 통해 재외 한국교육기관에서 실시되는 통일교육에 대한 시사점을 마련하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
방법 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구는 문헌연구와 설문조사의 방법을 통해 미국 소재 한국학교 학생들에게 적용할 통일교육의 목적 및 중점사항, 통일교육 프로그램의 내용과 방법에 관한 전반적인 자료를 수집하였다. 이 자료를 바탕으로 한국학교 교사3명이 해당 프로그램을 개발 및 적용하였다. 마지막으로 이 교사들에 대한 면담을 통해 재외 한국교육기관의 통일교육 및 관련 정책에 관한 시사점을 탐색하였다.
결과 연구 참여 교사들은 한국학교 학생을 대상으로 한 학기에 적용할 분량의 5단계 수업과정, 즉, 4단계의 기본과정, 1단계의 심화과정을 개발 및 적용하였다. 그 결과 ‘통일교육의 목표’가 세계시민교육과 연결되도록 하며, 학생들의 ‘가까운’ 미래에 영향을 주는역량을 함양할 수 있도록 설정되어야 함을 확인하였다. 또한 ‘통일교육의 방법’으로 학생들의 다문화적 배경과 상호주도성(Co-agency)의 강조, 온라인 플랫폼과 같은 매체의 활용을, ‘통일교육의 영역’에 한국 자체에 대한 학습, 국가간 갈등 해결에 대한실질적 연습이 포함되어야 함을 파악하였다.
결론 본 연구는 재외 한국교육기관에서 실시되는 통일교육이 ‘통일’에 국한되지 않은 폭넓은 이념의 활용, 통일교육을 교육과정문서 및 규정 재정비, 통일을 둘러싼 학생들의 미래 역량 습득, 체계적인 통일교육 자료가 담긴 온라인 플랫폼이나 홈페이지 개발, 학생들의 배경 및 현지 교육시스템과의 조화 등이 필요함을 제안하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Objectives The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a unification education program that can be ap plied to students in overseas Korean educational institutions, and to provide insights into reunification education conducted in these institutions.
Methods This study conducted a research study and survey were conducted to collect comprehensive data on the goals and key focus areas of unification education, as well as the content and methods of unification education programs to be applied to Korean schools in the United States. Based on this data, three teachers developed and implemented a practical program for Korean schools. Finally, interviews with the teachers were conducted to ex plore insights into unification education and related policies in overseas Korean educational institutions.
Results The participating teachers developed and implemented a five-step lesson plan, covering one semester for Korean school students, consisting of four steps for the basic course and one step for the advanced course.
As a result, it was confirmed that the “goals of unification education” should be connected to global citizenship ed ucation and aim to develop competencies that influence students' “near” future. Additionally, as for the “methods of unification education,” it was emphasized that students' multicultural backgrounds and co-agency should be highlighted, and the use of media such as online platforms should be incorporated. In terms of the “areas of uni fication education,” it was found that learning about Korea itself and practical exercises for resolving inter-country conflicts should be included.
Conclusions This study suggests the need for practical unification education based on a broad ideology that is not limited to ‘unification,’ the restructuring of curriculum documents and regulatory systems for unification educa tion, the acquisition of future competencies by students in relation to unification education, the development of online platforms or websites containing systematic unification education materials, and the harmonization of stu dents' cultural backgrounds with the local education system.
