Today, a travel has become one of the leisure activities that enrich the quality of life by away from everyday life as a modern society becomes more complex and diversified. In addition, as leisure time increases due to the development of transportation means and the improvement of living standards, travelling opportunities expand, the demandof travelling increases, and, as a result, the number of tourists who want to have package tours is on the rise.
Therefore, the purposes of this study are to examine the effect of package tours selection attributes on satisfaction and behavior intention, and to improve the quality of package tours in travel agencies based on the resultsso that tourists feel satisfied after package tours, and to provide theoretical and practical data that contribute to the qualitative growth of package tours through future behavioral intention.
In order to accomplish these, the study combined both literature and empirical research methods. Through literature research, we structured the theoretical concepts of product selection attributes, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions about package tours. Also, we constructed constituent factors and established the research models and hypotheses through previous researches.
In the empirical research method, the time period of study is from March to December 2016, the spatial range is the entry point of Inchoen International Airport, and the target subjects range is 20-year-olds or older who have used package tours more than twice. We asked them to fill the self-report questionnaires, performed a frequency analysis, an exploratory factor analysis, and a reliability analysis using the SPSS 21.0 statistical program, and conducted a regression analysis to analyze correlations between the variables and to test the hypotheses.
In the hypothesis verification results, Hypothesis 1 which product selection attributes of package tours will affect satisfaction, is partially adopted because the programs, the travel agencies’ services, the reputation of the travel agencies, and sustainable travels, excluding the prices, have been shown to have statistically significant impacts.
Hypothesis 2, which satisfaction will influence behavioral intention,is adopted because recommendation and repurchase were found to be statistically higher when satisfied. Hypothesis 3, which product selection attributes of package tours will affect behavioral intention, is partially adopted because they were statistically significant except for the reputation of the travel agencies.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of product selection attributes ofpackage tours on satisfaction and behavioral intention and the result gives the following suggestions.
The theoretical implication of this study isthat it is different from the previous studies by adding sustainable travels which were not measured in the previous studies. As practical implications, the marketing implications of travel agencies selling package tours are as follows.
First, the agencies must faithfully plan the programs which are the most important and carry out local tours in accordance with planning intentions by making qualitative growth.
Second, the level of services provided by travel agents and local tour guides should be improved and they need to respond promptlyand accurately to diverse requests from customers.
Third, as various problems have arisen with the recent development of travel industry, travel agencies must adhere to environmental policies, respect local cultures, and enhance the sustainability such as fair trade compliance.
Fourth, although prices do not have a directeffect on satisfaction, it is necessary to prepare differentiated price policies in comparison with other agencies by diversifying of programs, due to the fact that prices affect product selections and future behavioral intention.
Fifth, based on the statistics that the reputation of travel agencies affects satisfaction but does not affect behavioral intention, travel agencies should provide consistently tourists with package tours suitable for the reputation of agencies.
In result, as package tours become more common and the expectation of tourists increases, it is believed that travel agencies can survive in the competitive travel market by planning the package tours with product selection attributes that suit tastes and preferences of tourists
