A Study on the Implementation of 3D Geographic Data Models for Synchronized Virtual Reality Simulations

This study aims at developing a virtual indoor golf simulation system that provides actual look-and-feel game environments as real golf fields by using 3D VR (Three-Dimensional Virtual Reality) technology. For this research, the measurement of real golf fields has been performed with utilizing 3D scanner, so the 3D configuration data of the golf course can be obtained. CG (Computer Graphic) components have been generated from scanned geographic data, a VR engine structured by porting those elements, arithmetic logics for tracking hit balls by players investigated. Finally, a simulation system has been developed for single and network modes of the golf game. This paper is to introduce the development process and the final product of the synchronized collaborative VR golf simulation.
