Adolescents are being stressed by a variety of problems in everyday life. And the anger was shown as a reaction of not effectively managed constant stress. Anger is one of the natural emotion that appears in human development. However, when the intensity and duration of anger expression are excessive, the failure of anger control can cause a lot of youth problems. It is known that the more anger experience increases school violence actions.
This study was conducted to examine the relationship among social exclusion experience, family strength, satisfaction of psychological needs, and adolescent’s anger control. In addition, the study seeked to investigate the influences of social exclusion experience, family strength and satisfaction of basic psychological needs on adolescent’s anger control.
To solve the research problems, the data collected by 364 students of 2nd grade of middle school in Cheongju and Jincheon were analysed by correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program.
The major result were as follows;
First, social exclusion and anger control in an adolescent period showed a significant negative correlation, and had the highest negative correlation with community environmental area. In other words, the higher social exclusion experience in adolescent, can lower the level of anger control skills.
Second, family health showed a significant positive correlation with anger control, and troubleshooting capabilities of the family members had the highest correlations. These results showed that the higher perception of adolescents about family health can increased the level of anger control skills.
Third, the basic psychological needs of adolescents showed significantly correlated with anger control, capable of desire showed the highest correlations. For the human development and mental health, the satisfaction of basic psychological needs is very important, and when it is not satisfied, it lower the anger control ability of adolescents.
Fourth, as a result of research about how the social exclusion experience, family health and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs relatively impact on anger control, sub-factors of basic psychological needs, which are capable of desire, relationship needs and autonomy needs, and sub-factors of social exclusion experience, which are local community environmental area and economic area, showed a high explanatory power. Among them, capable of desire showed the highest explanatory power followed by local community environmental area, relationship needs, autonomy needs and economic area. According to gender, in the case of male students showed in order of capable of desire, economic area and autonomy area impact on anger control. Female students, however, showed relationship needs and local community environmental area impact on anger control. In case of male students, in the social environment, when they are satisfied with the recognition of others as a whole team and desire to move toward for the goal achievement, they reasonably respond to the anger in a way that does not harm others and themselves. Moreover, they can express their emotion of anger indirect way. Female students, however, maintain a close relationship with others in social interaction, when they give or get help, that is to say they interested in others and they feel others care. They can reasonably deal with the anger when they feel that the relationship with others is well maintained.
The results of these studies will be able to provide the basic data needed to prepare a program intended to foster the development of adolescents anger control skills and teaching methods.
