The object of this study is to find out the main differences between the children who took a program in androgyny equality as compared to those that didn't. This research will also show the differences with relation to sexual roles both sexes might present. The application of such programs on androgyny equality, free children from the pressure of following a stereotypical sex role. The final role aim of this research is to give the correct education about androgyny equality from childhood so that children may be able to display their individual choices to the fullest.
The subjects of this study were 60 five-year-old children. 30 children were put in the experimental group and the other 30 were put in the control group. Both the experimental group and the control group consisted of 15 girls and 15 boys. The researcher used information based on an androgyny equality program developed by the Korean Womens Development Organization (2000), the Korean Childrens Education Society (1997), and information that had been used at public kindergartens originally. This researcher made and used 36 sections that consisted of 6 items each: occupation, color, games, housework, raising children and sex.
The analysis of data and method of management was processed by computer using the following statistic packages: SPSS WIN program and SAS program. These programs use concrete statistical techniques processed statistically by frequency and percentage, average and standard deviation, separation sample t-test, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
The introduction of the main results found from this research is below.
First, when applied to the children of this program, the androgyny equality of the experimental group had improved more than the control group. There were big differences from all items concerning occupation, color, games, housework, raising children and sex. For example, children came to know that all things have their own color, and that raising children is not only mothers job, but also all families. In other words we know that the application of androgyny equality program is very effective to improve the idea of the sex role of children.
Second, the difference of ideas about sex role regarding the sex of children showed that there was no big difference as a sexual distinction at all low rank groups, but when we looked into each section there was a big difference statistically between two sections at the occupation item.
