Most of the current sewage treatment plants in the service areas are experiencing many problems in their operation and maintenance because they have been adopted indiscreetly without relavent examination about treatment processes and designed without evaluation of design factors. To solve these problems, design factors were determined by the analysis of sewage generation rate and its characteristics (BOD, SS, T-N, T-P etc) and the investigation of unit loading factors. Optimum operational conditions were discovered by the lab-scale experiment. A management plan of the sewage treatment plants was suggested by the field survey and questionnaire about workers, and the most desirable treatment process to fulfill the sewage characteristlcs was proposed by the comparison of the existing sewage treatment processes.
