동시대 미술에 나타나는 비정형 신체 이미지의 차용표현 연구 = A Study on the Appropriative Expression of Formless Body Images Appearing in Contemporary Art

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Contemporary artists, who seek the temporality, contingency, and imperfection of the body on the basis of formless body images that are valueless and ordinary, with no aura, present the current appearance of people, in which the relationship between one’s self-identity and others is unclear. In other words, it is a form-breaking and anti-aesthetics strategy which has subverted the social independence and nonconformity of the artworks that had been emphasized by modernist art, and which eventually expanded the paradigm of thinking. So I, as the researcher of this study, have recognized that formless body images have led the meaning of artworks into a sur-aesthetic territory. And I intend not only to re-recognize that those formless body images are deeply related to the appropriative strategy of post-modernist art, but also to raise new questions. From such a perspective, this study intends to analyze the artworks of representative artists to figure out what appropriative strategy those formless body images are using to reveal the existence of invisible modern people. To discuss the aforementioned research objectives, this research paper is comprised of three main chapters. The first chapter defines this formlessness and reviews related cases in the history of art. Based on this, the concept of the formless body is defined and the types of expression are examined to provide the grounds for the formless body images to be discussed. In the second chapter, the concept of appropriation is examined and the implementation strategy is reviewed to establish the foundation for the analysis of the expressivity of formless body images that maximize the form-breaking and anti-aesthetic factors. The third chapter examines the formless body images appearing in contemporary art based on the aforementioned appropriative strategy in terms of parody and pastiche. Through this exmaination, this study has found that contemporary artists adopt an appropriative strategy that uses intertextuality as a prism for various styles of expression when discussing 'constructed identity' and the 'relationships between an unclear self-identity and others'.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

신체의 일시성과 우연성, 그리고 불완전성을 전면에 내세우고 있는 동시대 예술가들은 아우라(Aura)가 상실되어 무가치하고 평범한 비정형 신체 이미지를 바탕으로 주체와 타자의 관계가 불명확한 우리들의 모습을 대변하고 있다. 예컨대 그것은 차용표현을 통한 탈형식과 반미학의 전략이며, 이는 모더니즘 미술에서 강조했던 작품의 독립성과 자율성을 전복시켜 사유의 패러다임을 확장시키는 결과를 초래했다. 이에 본 연구자는 비정형 신체 이미지가 작품의 의미를 초미적 영역으로 전환시켰음을 인지하였다. 그리고 그것이 포스트모더니즘 미술의 차용 전략과 깊은 연관성이 있음을 재인식하고 이를 새롭게 문제 제기하고자 한다. 본 연구는 이러한 관점에서 동시대 미술에 나타나는 비정형 신체 이미지가 비가시적인 현대인들의 실존을 표출함에 있어 어떠한 차용 전략을 구사하고 있는지 표본작가들의 작품을 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이상과 같은 연구목적을 논의하기 위해서 본 논문은 총 세 부분으로 나누어 연구를 진행했다. 첫째, 비정형의 정의를 논의하고, 미술사에서 그 사례를 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 비정형 신체의 개념을 규정하여 표현 양상을 고찰함으로써 동시대 미술에 비정형 신체 이미지가 개입되는 근거를 개진했다. 둘째, 차용의 개념과 그것의 실천전략을 살펴봄으로써 탈형식과 반미학적 요소를 극대화시키는 비정형 신체 이미지의 표현성에 대한 분석적 기반을 마련했다. 셋째, 앞서 논의한 차용의 전략을 바탕으로 동시대 미술에 나타나는 비정형 신체 이미지를 패러디(parody)와 혼성모방(pastiche)의 관점으로 연구하였다. 이를 통해 동시대 예술가들이 현대인들의 ‘구성되는 정체성’과 ‘불명확한 주체와 타자의 관계’에 대해 진술함에 있어, 상호텍스트성(Intertextuality)을 유발하는 차용의 전략을 표현 양식의 프리즘(prism)으로 활용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
