西日本 지역 한국 불상·불화작품의 조사연구 및 전산화

국문 초록 (Abstract)

불교신앙의 대상인 불교미술품으로는 불상, 불화(혹은 탱화), 공예, 사찰건축 등을 들 수 있다. 우리나라 문화재 가운데 불교미술품이 차지하는 비중은 매우 크다. 그러므로 학계에서는 불교미술에 대하여 깊은 관심을 보여 왔으며, 특히 불상과 불화에 대한 연구는 현전 자료를 기초로 하여 상당한 성과를 거두었다. 그러나 고려후기에서 조선전기에 이르는 뛰어난 작품성을 지닌 불상과 불화들이 제작되었으나, 90퍼센트 이상이 일본에 산재되어 있는 실정이다.
본 조사연구는 이러한 조사연구의 필요성에 따라 우선 한국의 불교미술품이 많이 산재해 있는 西日本(東京의 서쪽지역을 말함)지역을 3구역으로 나누어 자료를 확인 발굴하였다.
1)1차년도는 큐슈(九州) 지역의 후쿠오카(福岡), 나카사키켄(長崎), 사카켄(佐賀), 쿠마모토(熊本) 일대를 중심으로 작품들을 면밀히 조사하였다. 이어 대마도(對馬島)의 上縣郡과 下縣郡에 분포되어 있는작품과 이키(壹岐) 지역 조사를 실시하였다.
2)2차년도는 일본 혼슈(本州) 지역을 서쪽을 대상으로 실시한다. 야마쿠치(山口)를 비롯하여 시마네(島根), 히로시마(廣島), 오카야마(岡山), 효고(兵庫) 일대와 시코쿠(四國)지역의 네 개의 縣인 애히메(愛媛), 코치(高知), 카가와(香川), 토쿠시마(德島) 3)3차년도는 京板神 일대인 쿄토(京都), 오오사카(大阪), 나라(奈良), 시카(滋賀), 미네(三重)를 비롯하여 후쿠이(福井), 기후(岐阜), 아이치(愛知), 토야마(富山), 니이카다(新寫), 시즈오카(靜岡) 등의 지역을 조사하였다.
본 연구조사는 ‘대상작품 목록 작성 및 사진확보→ 지역별 소재지 파악→조사일정 및 지역별 자문가의 도움 → 조사의뢰 →조사허가에 따른 지역별 일정 조정→ 장비 및 조사도구 점검→ 현지도착, 현지 자문가와 논의→ 최종 조사대상 작품과 일정 재조절→ 현지조사(촬영 및 조서작성)→조사후 사진현상, 파일정리→조서보완 및 수정’ 등과 같은 순서로 진행하여 큐슈지역(對馬島 포함) 불상 70점과 불화 16점, 四國․中國, 中部․近畿地域 불상 30점, 불화 65점 등의 자료를 확보하였다.
그리고 조사이후에는 매년 불교미술과 관련 국제학술심포지움개최을 개최하여 서일본지역 불교미술의 특징을 검증하였다. 또한 연구기간 동안 자료 분석에 따른 성과는 관련학술지에 6편의 연구논문을 이미 발표하였으며, 확보된 자료는 향후 총2권으로 출판(CD병행)하여 불교미술연구의 기초자료로 제공한다.
이 같은 작업은 해외에 산재된 한국 문화유산의 소재를 확인하고 수집․정리한다는 목적과 함께 한국 중세 불교미술사 연구를 체계적으로 수행할 수 있는 토대를 구축하는 것이기도 하다. 본 연구의 성과물이 출판되면 연구의 활성화와 대중화가 더욱 확산될 것이며, 그 성과물은 한국불교미술의 역사와 문화를 연구하고 이해하며 활용하는 등 여러 방면에 기여할 것으로 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Buddhism's work of arts, there are Buddhist statue, Buddha's painting(which is hung on the wall), craft works, and Buddhist temple architecture as an object of Buddhistic faith. Buddhism's work of arts are given a great deal of weight on Korean cultural assets. Therefore some scholars in archeological academic world have deeply interested in Buddhism's arts and studies on Buddhist statue and Buddha's painting have been obtained considerably good results.
However, outstanding works of more than ninety percent of Buddhist statue and Buddha's Painting that have been produced from the latter period of Korea dynasty to former period of Yi dynasty are drained out in Japan.
According to this necessity, the investigation and inquiry were held in western Japan
where Korean works of art of Buddhism were scattered about and the area was divided into three areas;1)Kyushu area(九州) 2)Shikoku(四國), Chukoku(中國)area 3)Chubu(中部), Kinki(近畿)area.
Through the verificational examination of Buddhist statues, Buddha's paintings in western Japan, I secure necessary data which are essential for this study. I intend to analyze the secured data and present the thesis in the academic circle and offer basic data of Buddhism's work of art through the computerizing of the basic data. The aim of this work is to identify, collect and arrange the place where Korean cultural assets are and to establish a foundation to achieve a systematic study of Koran Mediaeval Buddhism art's history.
The method of this investigation is as follows; listing and securing works→grasping regional location→planning investigational date & assistance of regional consultant→requesting investigation→fixing schedule by investigational allowance→checking equipments & investigational tool→arrival in the area and discussing with regional consultant→rearranging investigational works and schedule→investigation in the area(photographing & writing a record)→post investigation, developing a film & filing →supplementing a record→holding an academic symposium→presenting thesis. For this purpose, a good deal of data has been secured and its publication has been planning.
Publication of papers will be helpful to revitalize and popularize the study and it will be contributed to the investigation, understanding, and utilizing Korean Buddhism of arts in various ways.
