This study is to discuss Korean vocabulary education from ecological linguistics. It is claimed that native Korean words and regional dialects should be reserved in that they make Korean lexicon richer. Standard Korean fulfills need for communication among Koreans, but native Korean words and regional dialects contribute to Korean cultural diversity and richness. Korean textbooks focuses on Sino-Korean words, which are selected on the basis of text-frequency. Even if native Korean words and regional dialects are rare in the text, they should be discovered and taught in school in order to reserve Korean cultural and linguistic resources.
