신혼가구의 주택소비에 나타나는 세대간 자산 이전과 성별 효과

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Taking account of both general economic theory of intergenerational transfer of asset and gender-specific sociocultural characteristics of Korea, this study empirically examines how parents wealth affects their child s housing asset prepared for marriage and how the effects are different between bride s and bridegroom s parents. The estimation results of multi-regression and path analysis models based on the survey data of Korean Labor and Income Panel Study demonstrate that parents wealth has a positive and significant effect on child s housing asset, which verifies the intergenerational transfer of asset, while most of the effect is composed of direct effect of material aid in comparison to indirect effect of socialization through child s education and income. The influence of parents wealth on housing asset is almost the same with that of child s permanent income and debt respectively. Most importantly, the gender effect is also found as the contribution of bridegroom s parents is larger than that of bride s parents. For bridegrooms, the influence of parents wealth on housing wealth is bigger that of child s permanent income, while the reverse is true for brides. This asymmetry between male and female groups reflects Korea s traditional gender role, as represented by familism, patriarchy, and patrilocal residence.
