다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims at presenting and classifying the general traits of Korean translated texts from English original ones. The author has surveyed previous works dealing with the topic in question, and analysed two translated texts, the Korean translated versions of Aesop Fables, to hit the target. The previous works could be categorized into two major pails: one is diachronic approach and the other is synchronic approach. Furthermore the latter could be sub-divided into two: one is descriptive approach and the other is quantitative approach. The general traits of Korean translated texts from English, discussed in the previous works are as follows: First, as for syntactic level, some English proper syntaxes interfere with the Korean ones, and the stereotyped translated expressions take precedence over the various indigenous ones, and lastly the translationese forms show up. Second, as for morphological level, the new word formation rules based on the English language appear, and the inflectional element of number has been reflected as a redundant element. Third, as for lexical level, personal pronouns and conjunctive expressions frequently appear, and hypernyms overwhelm hyponyms like ``aju``, ``maeu, etc. In addition, the unnatural expressions which are ill-formed in a pragmatic sense, appear considering the TT cultural background. Finally, some punctuation marks, such as semi-colon and dash, etc. are not accepted among Korean writers.
