중국 양무제 사신(捨身) 활동의 배경과목적에 대한 연구 = A Study about the Background and Purpose of Emperor Wu of Liang’s Sacrificing Himself

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There has been some stereotypes about the characteristics of each Buddhism in China throughout the history. Representatively, while Buddhism of Northern Dynasty was tend to be controlled by national ruling system, that of Southern Dynasty kept its own autonomy supported by the administrators.
Especially Emperor Wu of Liang’s active serving Buddhism specified the Buddhism of Southern Dynasty. Even so, it is to be reconsidered whether his serving Buddhism was just for realization of the Wheel-Turning Sacred King(Chakravati).
Based on Hui Yuan of Lushan’s book of ‘On Why Monks Do Not Bow Down Before Kings’, the special relationship between Southern Dynasty and Buddhism had been settled. This could be the background for Emperor Wu to act as the Wheel-Turning Sacred King. So far his acts of sacrificing his life has not been studied deeply enough. The beginning and the purpose of the acts of sacrificing himself are researched in this study. It also focuses on the misunderstandings about the fixed characteristics of each Buddhism of Northern and Southern Dynasties to be cleared up.
