사회과 교재로서의 숲의 생태 교육적 활용 : 홀리스틱(Holistic) 접근법을 중심으로 A Holistic Apprach = Forests as Materials for Social Studies in Ecological Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

20세기의 가장 큰 관심사인 환경문제는 이제 우리 인류의 생존과 직결된 문제인 것이다. 학교 교육에서 우리는 균형, 포괄, 연계를 강조하는 홀리스틱 교육의 접근법을 환경교육 혹은 생태교육에 적용해야 한다고 본다. 생태교육에서 숲은 하나의 작은 생태계라고 할만큼 우리에게 훌륭한 교재로서의 역할을 할 수 있다. 최근의 학교 숲 조성 운동은 이러한 점에서 주목해야 한다. 특히 초등학교 교과 중에서 사회과는 지역사회와 밀접한 연관을 가지고 있으므로 숲을 통해서 생태적 소양에 대한 안목을 기를 수 있다. 물론 숲을 조성한 후에 어떻게 숲은 교재화할 것인가에 대한 문제는 앞으로 커다란 과제로 남아 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

One of the most serious concerns in the 20th century may be the environmental problem which is closely related to the survival of humanities. The writer argues that we should apply a holistic approach to environmental or ecological education. The approach puts an emphasis on balance, inclusiveness, and connections in schooling. Forests are regarded as a small ecosphere which can play a role of materials for ecological education. In this vein, we should pay our attention to a recent movement of making forests in schools. We can possess ecological literacy by making and using forests as materials for social studies, which is connected to communities surrounding schools,
especially elementary schools. However, the thing is how to develop programs by using forests as teaching materials in the near future.
