Internet computing will enable large-scale aggregation and sharing of computational data and other resources across institutional boundaries. For this. the concept of GRID is coined. The Grid will not only enable sharing of documents and MP3 files, but also connect PCs with sensors, telescopes and tidal-wave simulators. The Grid, as the next-generation Internet is called, will give researchers intelligent access to information and analysis tools as well as to raw computing power. In this paper, we survey the concept of the GRID and its architecture. Based on the architecture, we study the current issues on the concept and the applications of the GRID. Finally, we conclude the potential and the future of the GRID.
