사회학적 패러다임에 비추어 본 감성 연구 = A REVIEW OF THE SOCIOLOGY OF EMOTION

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 1980년대 후반부터 서구 학계를 중심으로 주요 화두로 등장하고 있는 감성을 주제로 한 사회학적 연구를 조망하고자 한다. 이를 위해 사회학 영역에서 감성이 새로운 연구 주제로 부상하기까지의 과정을 지성사 및 사회구조적 변동의 맥락에서 간략히 살펴본 후에, 감성 연구의 태동 및 발달 과정을 선구적 학자들을 중심으로 정리하였다. 감성 사회학 분야는 현재 미시적 행위 및 거시적 구조 수준에서 감성을 종속변수로 보는 연구가 활발히 진행 중에 있으며, 부분적으로 감성을 매개변수 및 특정 행동의 유발요인으로 자리매김하는 연구들이 나오고 있다. 뒤를 이어 구체적으로 경험되는 감정의 하나로서 수치심(shame)을 실례로, 수치심과 사회적 동조성 간의 연결고리를 어떻게 규정할 것인가, 더불어 수치심의 표면적 퇴조 현상을 어떻게 해석할 것인가 등에 대한 기존의 연구를 탐색해보았다. 결론 부분에서는 감성 사회학 분야의 향후 연구 과제를 제시하면서, 전반적으로는 감성의 보고(寶庫)라 해도 과언이 아닌 한국사회에서 감성을 주제로 한 사회학 연구의 가능성을 확인해보았다

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper reviews the outline of the sociology of emotions, which is a relatively new substantive topic within sociology. Recent work in the sociology of emotions has gone beyond the development of concepts and perspectives to elaboration of theory and empirical research. The paper briefly explores the question why the emotions have been ignored in sociology until 1980s. Then the micro-level approaches to emotion and the macro-level approaches are introduced. The micro-level includes social construction theorists and symbolic interactionists, and the macro-level includes a couple of interesting historical and cross-cultural studies of the shaping of the emotional experience and emotion cultural. The next part shows that shame has played a continuing role in explanations of social conformity. The last part discuses prospects of the sociology of emotion.
