자본주의의 탄생과 종말에 대하여 : 마르크스와 월러스틴 = On the Origin and the End of Capitalism : Views of K. Marx and I. Wallerstein

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay attempts to explore the views of K. Marx and I. Wallerstein on the origin and the end of the capitalism. Both thinkers considered capitalism as a historically specific economic system, that had a beginning and would eventually come to an end. This essay expects that their discourses on capitalism may contribute to understanding of our present and future.
Marx regarded capitalism as the most significant stage in the progress of human history and saw that it created favourable conditions for emergence of new individuality. He saw in capitalism the necessity of coming of socialist society. One peculiar aspect of his perspective is that he attributed to capitalism many of what is now generally associated with socialism, such as collective ownership, socialization of labor and so on. This essay explores Marx's view of socialism as resuscitation of individual ownership of the means of production.
Wallerstein views capitalism as a particular historical world-system and contends that it is an ideological illusion that capitalism simply equals wage labor in a market economy. Marxists who consider the wage labor as a key characteristic of capitalism criticize Wallerstein’s world-system analysis for being a circulationist theory that disregards the importance of class relations. But, I understand his summary as follows: the working condition of capitalism reveals itself in world production relations in which various exploitation modes are combined. This essay explores his thesis that we stand in an age of transition in which the capitalist world-system will be transformed into something else.
