Hydrological catchment similarity assessment is important for estimating flood at ungauged catchment. This study proposes Hydrological Catchment Similarity Assessment (HCSA) for analyzing catchment similarities of 25 subcatchments in Geum river region. HCSA is derived from physical distance(and same watercourse), hydrological distance in catchment characteristics. The analysis of catchment similarity is used to classify the 25 catchments into 2 groups (A-1 and A-2). Then, the A groups are compared with B groups (B-1, B-2, B-3 and B-4) which are classified by flow-duration curve to evaluate application of HCSA. Simcheon and Songcheon in A-1 group are duplicated in B-1 group and B-3 group respectively. This result shows that 1 catchment(Simcheon) in the A-1 group corresponds to B-1 group and A-2 5 catchments(Cheongseong, Gidaegyo, Seokhwa, Bukil, Hapgang) in the A-2 group correspond to B-2 group. As shown in the comparison, although A-1 group has low effect to the assessment due to the insufficient catchments, A-2 group shows that the hydrological catchment similarity index is applicable. In conclusion, this study can be useful data base for confidential flood estimation at ungauged catchments in Geum river catchment. However, for widely use of this study, additional research is necessary.
