The experimental work was done on white male rats, weighing between 170gm and 220gm. The experimental group was divided into A,B,C subgroup. In A and B subgroup Licl solution in a dose of 2mEq. per Kg was injected intraperitoneally for 4 days and 7 days respectively. In C subgroup Licl a dose of 1mEq. per Kg was injected intraperitoneally for 12 days. The control group was injected with normal saline intraperitoneally. In both experimental and control group 100μc of ?? and 7μc of ?? were respectively injected on 4th, 7th and 12th day intraperitoneally to a group of rats. The animals were sacrified 10 hour after the last injection.
The following results were obtained.
1. The weight of endocrine organ and radioactive tracer uptake after lithium administration were found reduced in thymus, testicles and seminal vesicles, whereas in adrenals these were found increased. In thyroid ?? uptake was decreased, although ?? uptake was remarkablley increased.
2. After lithium administration thyroid showed enlarged follicles, in which profuse thin colloidal substance was observed. Adrenals showed hypertrophic zona fasciculata, while the medulla was notablly atrophic. Subsquent hyperfunction of thyroid and adrenal cortex were observed.
3. Thymus and seminal vesicles showed remarkable atrophy and subsquent hnpofunction of them were noted.
