This paper examines the role of Indonesian migrant workers in shaping Malaysia-Indonesia relations and discusses the complex impact of their presence on the economic, political, and social dimensions of both countries. To achieve this, the study first explores the causes of international labor migration between Malaysia and Indonesia, using major theories related to the international movement of labor, along with an analysis of the historical background, structural factors, and social networks. Furthermore, the study highlights that while migrant workers are essential to the economic development of both countries, they remain subjects of exploitation and human rights abuses, which continue to spark controversy and conflict. This underscores the need for more effective policies to manage and protect migrant workers. The study closely examines bilateral agreements and policies designed to regulate and protect migrant labor, assessing their effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and policy analysis, this research emphasizes that the issue of migrant labor is both a crucial link and a point of contention in Malaysia-Indonesia relations.
