국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 슈츠의 ‘이방인’ 분석에 초점을 맞추고, “그가 하고많은 학문적 주제 중에서 왜 하필 ‘이방인’을 다루게 되었을까?”란 질문을 제기하면서 그 답을 試論적으로 제시하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. “어떤 동기가 그로 하여금 ‘이방인’문제를 다루게 하였을까?"란 질문을 제기하는 것은 곧 “ ‘이방인’의 분석을 통해 진정으로 슈츠가 원했던 것은 무엇이었을까?"란 질문과 일맥상통하게 된다. 그리고 그것은 다시 풀어서 얘기하자면, “그 탐구를 통해 슈츠는 독자들을 어떤 지점으로 끌고 가고 싶어 했을까? 혹은, 어떤 곳에 독자들이 다다르기를 기대했을까?”란 질문들과 긴밀히 연계된다. 바로 이런 질문들에 대한 답을 본 연구에서 제시하고 있다. 간단히 말해서, 슈츠는 현상학적 탐구의 핵심적인 주제로 간주했던 사회세계의 ‘자연적 태도’의 본질을 꿰뚫는 데, ‘이방인’의 분석이 결정적인 일조를 할 것으로 기대했다고 본 논문은 확신한다.

This study attempts to offer a tentative answer to the question, "why did Alfred Schutz turn his attention to the issue of 'stranger' instead of other interesting subjects." Another way to pose this question would be "what motivated Schutz to take up the problem of 'stranger'?" and how is it related to the following question "what did Schutz really want to provide readers like us with, through his analysis of 'stranger'?" In other words, the original question can be easily translated into this question, "what conclusion did he want his readers to reach from the analysis of 'stranger'?" In short, this paper argues the analysis of the 'stranger' plays a critical role in figuring out the essence of the 'natural attitude' of the social world.
