      American-style democratic education based on Deweyism has influenced our physical education circle with a name tag of `New Physical Education` Democratic education has focused attention on `children-centered education` and `life-centered education` by bearing a flag of building a democractic society, and has laid emphasis on sports activities. Deweyism was born in the age when American traditional capitalism and democratic system was verging toward revisional democracy and capitalism rather than come to an end. At the very time Dewey`s educational thoughts come into being as a requisite for America which tried to make children readjust to industrial lives in the stage of government monopolitic capitalism in order to manage American capitalism. Therefore, following Dewey`s democratic education born to meet requirements of the American society without criticism, we may fall mito a danger that we disregard ideological characteristics implied in so-called democratic education In our country, new physical education could not go beyond the theory and methodology of American one due to the lack of the theoretical background and relative short experiences of leaders in charge. American academic disciplinary movement of physical education emerging in 1960`s was motivated by the transition of Dewey`s life-centered education to an discipline-centered education. American discipline-centered education was born as a necessity of the age when the steady supply of skilled laborers must be assured as industries comes to high levels of technology, the cold war increases sharply the demand of able researchers trained in special fields and technological competition becomes tougher and tougher as protective system gains momentum in the long economical slump of world capitalism. American academic disciplinary movement of physical education arose because a requirement that theory of physcal education should take a seat among fields of learning occurrs as sports becomes a large scale social phenomena. Our academic disciplinary movement didn`t gain a rapid momentum until 1980`s. Such a kind of rapid spread this movement was accelerated by the external factors like the physical expansion of college education in terms of quantity. In the latter part of the capitalist age a new market began to be created by commer-cializing culture. Sports rode on the same bandwagon because sports could easily attract keen commercial interest. Enthusiasm for sports is motivated by people`s lust for consumption and pleasure induced by later capitalism. Our country is thought to become a member of the society of later capitalism by the economic open-door policy in during 1980`s. People`s enthusiasm for sports demands the our reexamination of the theroies of physical education.
