Growing megacity dynamics of Southeast Asian Region recently has brought significant research agenda in both academic and policy arena. This study exposes some urbanization characteristics of the four selected megacities, viz., rapid population growth of the primate city and resulting high urban primacy, prevalence of informal sector, and emergence of Extended Metropolitan Region(EMR). Preceding studies upto '80s understood urban economic structure of the region as dualistic. This study, based on the analyses of the influences of economic globalization, information telecommunications(ITs), environmentalism and informal sector, contends that, since 1990s, the structure has been changed to trinary one consisted of i) gworth of the advanced industries including ITs, ii) labor intensive formal manufacturing, and iii) informal economies.
