한국어의미론과 인지심리학의 접점 및 전망 = Interfaces between Korean Semantics and Cognitive Psychology and Their Prospects

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 인지언어학에 바탕을 둔 '한국어의미론'과 '인지심리학'의 접점 및 전망을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 시도는 인접 학문 분야 간의 상관성을 탐색함으로써 제 홀로서 보기 어려운 점을 찾아내고, 우리가 본유적으로 발 딛고 있는 분야에 이 대해 창발적인 인식에 이르기 위함이다. 이 글에서 논의한 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 두 영역의 전형적인 여섯 가지 접점에 대해서 논의하였다. (1) 범주화의 원형이론과 기본층위 (2) 머릿속 사전의 작용방식·실체·단어의 이해 (3) 비유의 개념적 은유와 개념적 환유 (4) 주관적 이동의 상대적 이동과 심리적 이동 (5) 해석의 범위·시점·전경과 배경 (6) 언어·사고·심상의 영향 관계와 작용 양상 둘째, 두 영역의 두 가지 전망에 대해서 논의하였다. (1) 장차 한국어의미론은 인지언어학의 방법론과 호흡을 같이할 것이다. 또한 인지과학의 일환으로서 인지심리학의 유용한 기법인 실험 기법의 실증적 연구와 신경과학을 수용함으로써 한국어의미론의 취약한 부분을 보완할 수 있게 될 것이다. (2) 이제까지 언어의 의미에 대한 인지적 논의는 인지심리학에 기반을 두거나 영향을 받아온 사례가 흔하다. 이러한 일방향성은 장차 언어 연구의 결과가 심리 연구와 쌍방향성으로 발전되거나 심리 연구로 역전될 가능성이 높다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine some interfaces between Korean semantics and cognitive psychology and their prospects. Such an attempt aims to identify what is hard to discover in one field of scholarship by exploring the correlationship between the two related academic areas and so to reach a creative understanding of what is being inherently studied. The results are as follows: First, typical interfaces of the two fields of study are discussed: (1) the prototype theory and basic level of categorization, (2) the working ways, substance of the mental lexicon, and the understanding of words, (3) conceptual metaphor and metonymy of figures of speech, (4) relative motion and psychological motion of subjective motion, (5) the scope, time, and figure and ground of construal, (6) the correlationship between language, thought, and imagery, and their working aspects. Second, their prospects are discussed: (1) It is suggested that Korean semantics will make use of the methodology of cognitive linguistics, and make up for its vulnerabilities by receiving the empirical research of cognitive psychology and neuroscience. (2) So far, the cognitive study on linguistic semantics has usually been based on or affected by cognitive psychology. Such unilateral research is likely to develop into the bilateral study of linguistic and psychological research, or to be changed into psychological research.
