순환경제 활성화를 위한 에코 패키지의 동향분석 및 시사점 = A Study on Trends and Implications of Eco Package for the Circular Economy

As environmental pollution has emerged as the most urgent problem today, and countries around the world are strengthening environmental regulations and paying attention to introducing a ‘Circular Economy(CE)’ and ‘Extended Producer Responsibility(EPR)’ systems. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the trends of eco-packages and draw implications by synthesizing the understanding of domestic and international environmental regulations and the analysis of recyclability-improving products. It consists of a summary of regulations and an analysis of practical cases. This study derived 553 recyclability improvements from the collected 400 products, and classified by year of product launch, product item, and eco type, and then analyzed the status in detail once again. The flow of environmental regulations is in the order of reduction, recycling, reuse, recycling and replacement, and the ultimate goal can be seen as a policy of zero waste. In fact, while adhering to the existing product production method, a method or development that can supplement recyclability is introduced, and recyclability is improving by methods such as reducing packaging materials, reducing packaging space, removing double packaging, and avoid overpacking, depending on product characteristics. By synthesizing these, implications for appropriate application plans were derived. In the circumstance of environmental regulations and the trend of the times, packages that take into account the recyclability of packaging materials will naturally become an essential element. Now that mandatory regulations are strengthened in Korea, by grasping the flow of regulations and the trend of eco-friendly packages, it will be possible to find an efficient strategy for the package design process.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 환경오염이 가장 시급한 문제로 대두되어 세계 각국은 환경규제를 강화하고, 자원 ‘순환경제’의 도입과 ‘생산자책임재활용’제도에 주목하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내외 환경규제에 대한 이해와 재활용성 개선 제품에 대한 분석을 종합함으로써 에코 패키지의 동향 분석과 시사점을 도출하기 위하여 진행되었다. 규제에 대한 정리와 실질적인 사례 분석으로 구성된다. 수집된 400개의 제품에서 553개의 재활용성 개선 내용을 도출하여, 이를 바탕으로 제품 출시의 연도별, 제품의 품목별, 에코 유형별로 나누어 분류한 후, 다시 한 번 세부적으로 현황을 분석하였다. 환경규제의 흐름은 감량, 재활용, 재사용, 재생 및 대체의 순서이며, 궁극적인 목표는 폐기물의 제로화 방침이라 볼 수 있다. 실제로 기존의 제품 생산 방식을 고수하면서, 재활용성을 보완할 수 있는 공법이나 개발이 도입되고, 제품 특성에 따라 포장재 재료의 절감, 포장 공간의 축소, 이중포장 제거, 과대포장을 방지하는 등의 방법으로 재활용성이 개선되고 있다. 이를 종합하여 적절한 적용 방안에 관한 시사점을 도출하였다. 환경규제와 시대의 흐름 속에서 포장재의 재활용성을 고려한 패키지는 자연스럽게 필수요소로 자리 잡게 될 것이다. 국내에 의무 규제가 강화되는 지금, 규제의 흐름과 친환경 패키지의 동향을 파악함으로써, 패키지 디자인의 프로세스에 대한 효율적인 전략을 모색할 수 있을 것이다.
