This study perposed to grasp the needs of early childhood teachers for the inservice program through cyber education to get basic data for designing a efficient cyber education system for the early childhood teachers.
The subjects of this study were 307 teachers working at the kindergartens and day care centers in Seoul. Questionnaire was constructed by researchers to get the data. Frequency and percentage of the responses were described.
The results of this study were as follows :
Most of the young children's teachers have heard about the cyber university from the mass media. such as TV or radio. They have very positive attitude for the necessity of teacher education program through cyber university. show high interests in and preference for it. Half of them have computer appropriate for cyber education and know internet assisted education.
Second, early childhood teachers want to improve their ability as a teacher as well as self-realization through cyber education. They express preference for 6-month program offering 2 hours in a week . Teachers think 200,000 won or less in Korean money appropriate for one course and on-site class should be added to on-line class though main classes are offered though internet.
Third, ealry childhood teachers want classes in the area of child development and early childhood education most still they request wide range of ealry childhood related classes. The suggest various kinds of evaluation method for cyber education.
Last, they want credits from cyber university treated similar with those from general university so that they can enter graduate school after graduating from cyber university.
Implications of these results were discussed in the point of implementing cyber education for teacher education.
