A study on population status was carried out in a Korean rural area Su-Dong Myun-Yang-Ju Gun, Kyung-Gi Do, from July 20 to 29, 1971. Su-Dong Myun is the Community Medicine Demonstration Area of the Ewha Woman's University since 1966.
This study was directed by the department of preventive medicine, Ewha medical college as a part of the community health program. The survey tean composed of 3 staffs and 10 students of medical college visited to the 475 housfolds which are the total number of households located in the 7 northern administrative ries of Su-Dong Myun.
The result obtained from the study was as follow:
1. Population in the study area was 2560 composed of 1286 male and 1274 female in 1971.
2. Population of 15-59 age group was 45.9 percent or less then half of the total population and it represented the gourd type which is characteristic of a typical rural Population type.
3. The cured birth rate was decreased remarkably from 31.6 per 1,000 in 1967 to 25.7 in 1970 and 23.8 in 1971(estimated)and the crude death rate also decreased from 10.9 per 1,000 in 1967 to 9.2 in 1970. As the result, the natural population increasing rate was 16.5 per 1,000 in 1970.
4. During the last 4 years since 1967, there were 147 persons moved in and 424 persons moved out from the study area and the social decreasing rate of population was 27.2 per 1,000 in 1970
