This study aims to empirically test if the consistency between supplier selection criteria and customer order winning criteria can contribute to improving the supply chain performance. Five common constructs and their measurement items, in terms of quality, delivery, flexibility, cost and innovation capabilities, were proposed for both supplier selection criteria and order-winning criteria and validated through confirmatory factor analysis. A consistency measure was defined as an absolute difference between these two common constructs for each of five capabilities. Through the stepwise multiple regression analysis, the quality consistency was found to be the most effective one in enhancing overall supply chain performances. The delivery consistency and the flexibility consistency also appeared to be significantly related to the supply chain performance measures. These three consistency measures showed a significant relationship with underlying supply chain performance which mainly focuses on responsiveness for customer orders.
