Analysis of North Korean Supreme Leadership’s Public Activities During March-May 2024

Looking at Kim Jong-un’s public activities by purpose from March to May 2024, there were a total of 33 events, including 5 political, 19 military, 4 economic, and 5 other activities. Compared to the same period in the previous three years, visits regarding the military has notably increased, which appears to be due to North Korea’s shift in policy towards South Korea. Since the decision to change the policy towards South Korea at the 9 th plenary meeting of the 8 th Central Committee in December 2023, Kim Jong-un has not only conducted missile launches, on-site inspections of military factories, and military encouragement activities but also directed and observed various training sessions six times from March to May 2024. Notably, in March 2024, when the North Korean military was known to be concluding its winter training, Kim Jong-un concentrated on directing and observing various training sessions five times.
