Current trend toward automation of the industrial process has been well implemented
through many well advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence including neural
network analysis. Among the most difficult process in judging the machining process
quality, prediction of machine parameters like surface roughness, cutting force and power
have drawn much attention and research works since they may play the key roles in
dissolving and lessening the complexities of the process. In this study, Merchant' s
definition for process shear angle was utilized to find cutting resistances with process
parameters including rake angle, depth of cut, chip thickness and width of cut. One
hidden layer with variable node number neural network structure was applied to find out
two cutting forces ( and ) with the prediction rate over 90%.
