This study attempts to suggest how to improve the disability benefit system in Korea through exploring the history and implementation of New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) in the U.K. and analyzing the impact of the program on benefit receipt and employment. For this purpose, impacts on benefit receipt rate and amount, and employment rate are analyzed based on the data on the impact of NDDP during the period between July 2001 and June 2006 conducted by DWP (2007). The result shows that NDDP has an impact on a decrease in benefit receipt rate and amount of beneficiaries with disabilities and an increase in employment rate and the period. According to the experience in the U.K., it is concluded that reinforcement of responsibility and motivation of the staff who provides employment service to beneficiaries with disabilities and diversification and networking of service delivery agency along with a better conception of work ability of the disabilities and a comprehensive change of disability benefit system that is able to support work participation are required.
