여성 장애인의 직업 선택 및 유지 과정 경험에 관한 질적 연구 = A Qualitative Study on the Experience of Job Selection and Maintenance Process by Women with Disability

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 여성장애인들이 직업을 선택하고 유지하는 과정에서의 경험을 당사자의 목소리를 통해서 파악해보고, 그 경험에 대한 현실적인 이해를 바탕으로 사회복지적 함의를 찾는데 있다. 이 연구를 위해 취업을 시도한 경험이 있거나 직업을 가진 경험이 있는 여성장애인 16명을 대상으로 개별 인터뷰와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 수집된 자료는 Strauss ＆ Corbin(2001)이 제시한 질문하기와 지속적 비교방법을 활용하여 분석되었다. 분석 결과 여성장애인의 직업 선택 및 유지 과정은 직업 인식기, 직업 탐색기, 직업 준비기, 직업 적응기의 4과정으로 도출되었다. 그리고 이러한 과정에 따른 여성장애인의 경험은 단순히 성인기의 일시적이고 단편적인 경험이 아닌 전 생애에 걸친 연속적인 과정으로서 "여성장애인의 직업적 사회화 과정에서의 배제 경험과 적응 경험"으로 드러났다. 특히 배제 경험으로 인해서 여성장애인들의 직업적 사회화 과정은 연속적이기보다는 분절적이며, 순환적으로 경험한다는 것이 발견되었다. 이와 같은 연구 결과는 여성장애인의 직업상태는 성인기 직업 재활 훈련이나 서비스의 미비보다는 직업 인식기에서부터 시작되는 다양한 요소들의 상호작용의 산물임을 발견함으로써, 향후 여성장애인의 직업 선택 및 유지에 관련된 이론적 논의의 기초로 활용할 수 있다. 또한 본 연구는 여성장애인이 직업적 사회화의 장(arena)인 가정, 학교, 사회에서 경험하는 배제를 최소화할 수 있는 방안들을 제시함으로써 사회복지 실천 영역에서의 함의를 갖는다.

this study explores the experience of women with disability m choosing and maintaining their jobs. It is the aim of study to find social welfare implications based on the pragmatic understanding of their experience. This research uses in-depth individual interviews and focus-group interviews. Participants are 16 women with disability, who have experiences in finding and maintaining employment. Collected data are analysed using Strauss and Corbin's (2001) method of asking questions and constant comparison. Research results are as follows. The whole process of job selection and maintenance experienced by women with disability can be divided into 4 stages and these stages experienced by women with disability are not simply limited to adulthood. It is not a temporary or fragmentary process but one that continues throughout life and is identified as "an experience of exclusion and adaption during occupational socialization of women with disability". Noticeably, this study finds that the exclusion experience by women with disability has resulted in fiagmentary and recurring occupational socialization. Furthermore, the job status of women with disability is not attributed to the lack of job rehabilitation training or service during adulthood but is the outcome of interaction between various elements starting from the early job preparation period. The findings of this study can contrbute to the basis of theoretical discussion about disabled women's job choice and maintenance. Finally, this study suggests ways to minimize the exclusion on disabled women in the arena of occupational socialization - family, school and society. Those approaches can have implications in carrying out social welfare practices.
