제7장 학교평가 공통지표에 대한 인권적 고찰 = 7. A study on indicators of school evaluation from the perspective of human rights

After banning on corporal punishment and allowing liberal hair styles and dress codes, the dispute grew hot between conservatives and liberals. Student rights are those rights which protect students. I think teachers and students` human rights are both interdependent and indivisible in school. But some people think that protecting students human rights violate teachers` rights. They think establishing teacher`s authority and privileges is more important than extending students human rights. The issue is still controversial. Nevertheless, I basically insist that human rights in school is a foundation of creating good school. Traditionally Korean thinks criterion for good school is academic achievement. They are not interested in human rights. They justified control the students as good will for students academic achievement for longtime. It is time to shift in the perception of students from the objects of control and regulation to human beings with independent characteristics. Education should be about cultivating humans and their creative, diverse ideas. Therefore school value index should include the human rights index. Value index should be representative of the status of good school. If the school value index is in a straight line, the school could be changed to ideal school for human rights of students.
