Typical mathematical models of truck for the purpose of dynamic vehicle-pavement interaction are discrete or lumped mass models whose properties are defined at their respective centers of gravity and requires the input of their individual rotational mass moments of inertia. A continuous or distributed model is formulated in this study using a two-dimensional (2D) half-truck finite element model and analyzed using the finite element program OpenSees (2000). The gross vehicle weight (GVW) is converted into an equivalent distributed loading along the front and rear. The use of a 2D half-truck continuous model having distributed mass and weights considers the flexibility and damping characteristics of the vehicle frame that does not require the input of the rotational mass moments of inertia, which is actually a difficult parameter to establish. Using the 2D half-truck finite element model, numerical simulations were performed using various parameters such as the road roughness, vehicle speed, suspension stiffness and damping in order to evaluate their individual effects on the dynamic axle load response.
