김만중 소설의 여성 인물 형상에 끼친 가족 문화의 영향 = The Influence of Family Culture to the Figure of Female Characters in Kim Man-jung s Novels

국문 초록 (Abstract)

김만중의 <구운몽>과 <사씨남정기>에는 여성 인물이 다채롭게 형상화되어 문학적 흥미를 자아낸다. 본고는 여성 인물 형상화의 작가적 배경이 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 이야기를 좋아하는 윤 부인이 가족의 중심이 된 점에 주목하여 가족 문화가 김만중 소설의 여성 인물 형상화에 일정한 영향을 끼쳤으리라 보았다. 관련 자료는 김만중 형제와 조카들이 남긴 문집, 집안의 여성 인물에 관한 행장 등이 있다. 이를 살펴 윤 부인 중심의 김만기, 김만중 집안 가족 문화의 특징을 정리해 볼 수 있다. 그것은 첫째, 예법과 학구적 분위기, 둘째, 문학 향유와 한담, 셋째, 자녀 사랑과 여성 교육이다. 김만중의 소설은 이러한 가족 문화 속에서 배태된 것으로 보인다. 가족 문화를 염두에 두고 김만중 소설의 여성 인물을 분석하였다. <구운몽>은 수렴과 확산의 구도에 의해, <사씨남정기>는 선악의 전형화를 통해 여성 인물의 형상화가 이루어졌다. 그리하여 전자는 상상과 허구 세계에의 몰입을, 후자는 윤리적·이념적 주제 의식에 대한 공감을 의도한 듯하다. 이러한 차이도 있지만 두 작품을 통해 여성 인물이 다채롭게 형상화된 양상만큼은 뚜렷하다. 인물의 원천에 대해 전고의 여성 인물과 당대 여성으로 나누어 살폈다. 전고의 인물은 한시와 소설에 공통된 인물이 상당수여서 한시의 소재가 소설로 이어진 면모를 보인다. <구운몽>의 진채봉, 적경홍은 반첩여, 동작기를 원용함으로써 인물 형상이 심화된 면이 있다. <사씨남정기>의 교채란은 하간 절부에 견줌으로써 악에 빠지는 모습을 더욱 근거 있게 만들었다. 한시에서 다루지 않은 인물을 소설에서 참조한 예는 소설이 지닌 윤리적 지향성을 드러낸다. 한편, 윤 부인뿐 아니라 기녀, 왕실 여성, 익명의 여성 사례 등이 인물 형상에 참조되었을 가능성이 있다. <구운몽>과 <사씨남정기>는 주제, 성격, 인물 설정 등의 면에서 가족 문화를 배경으로 한 면모를 지닌다. 가정의 화목이라는 공통 주제는 여성 독자를 대상으로 한 것이다. 윤 부인 중심의 가족 이야기판은 여성 어른을 중심으로 담소하는 형상에 투영되어 있다. <구운몽>의 황실 여성 형상, <사씨남정기>의 숙종조 왕실에 대한 우의 등도 가족 관계와 관련이 있다. 여성 교육과 자녀 사랑의 문화는 계섬월이 진채봉에게 배우는 장면, 임추영이 인아를 보육하는 것과 연관될 수 있다. 가족 이야기판의 관습을 배경으로 <구운몽>은 여덟 가지 낭만적 이야기를 펼쳤고 <사씨남정기>는 위기 속에서도 예법과 부덕의 윤리를 제시하였다. 본고는 김만중 소설이 가족 문화를 배경으로 당대와 전고의 인물을 참조하여 여성 형상을 그려 내었음을 논하였다. 전기적 연구의 일환으로서 작품의 역사적 배경을 찾아본 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study raises the question of what the background of the colorful shape of female characters is in Kim Man-jung s novels, Guunmong and SassiNamjeonggi. As one of the most influential backgrounds, we examined the family culture of the writer centered on his mother Mrs. Yoon who likes stories. Thus, we tried to find out the traces left by the influence of family culture on the image of female characters of two novels. Looking at the materials related to the writer s family, we can summarize the family culture of Kim Man-ki and Kim Man-jung s family, who have served Mrs. Yoon. It can be said that first, the manners and academic atmosphere, second, the enjoyment of literature and the conversation, third, the love of children and the education of women. In this family culture, Kim Man-jung s two novels seem to have been born. In the female characters, Guunmong is shaped by the composition of convergence and diffusion, but SassiNamjeonggi is shaped by the typicalization of good and evil. Therefore, it is thought that the former intended the immersion in the imagination and the fictional world, and the latter intended the empathy for ethical and ideological consciousness. The female characters in two novels could be explored the female characters of antecedent stories and the women of the time. The characters of antecedent stories are common to poems with Chinese letters and two novels. With the examples of characters not be shown in poems, the two novels reveal the ethical orientations. On the other hand, regarding the women of the time, it was suggested that not only the mother Yoon but also the gisaengs, royal women, and anonymous female cases related to the writer s family were referred. The figure of female characters in two novels has a certain relationship with family culture. The common theme of family reconciliation is the one for female readers. The family story stage centered on Mrs. Yoon leaves a trail in the work of chatting around the female adult. The imperial women in Guunmong and the political comprehension of SassiNamjeonggi may also have a certain relationship with the writer s family culture. Women s education and children s love of family culture could be associated with some events in two novels. Considering the family story, Guunmong is an eight cases of romantic story, and SassiNamjeonggi is a lesson to keep the propriety and virtue even in a crisis situation. This study discussed that Kim Man-jung s novels depicted various female figures by referring to the female characters of antecedent stories and the time in the background of family culture. It is meaningful that we have a more concrete historical understanding of two novels by this study.
