This study empirically analyzed the impact of using online social relationship services on life satisfaction among middle-aged adults (40–64 years) and older adults (65 years and above). Utilizing data from the 2023 Digital Divide Survey, multiple regression analyses were conducted with a sample of 4,168 internet users. Online social relationship service usage was measured by the frequency of using PC-based and smart device-based social services. The results indicated that, for middle-aged adults, the use of both PC and smart devices for social relationship services had a positive effect on life satisfaction. In contrast, among older adults, only the use of smart devices showed a significant effect on life satisfaction. Additionally, living alone status and household income were significant predictors of life satisfaction in the middle-aged group, while age, education level, and income were influential factors in the older adult group. Notably, the use of smart devices for social relationship services emerged as the strongest predictor of life satisfaction among older adults.
